Codewhale on your phone

Keep up with your work while you're away from your desk: see what needs you, answer it, and start something new on a cloud computer.

Works on: the phone app, signed in. See Sign in.

Your conversations

The first screen is Conversations. Conversations that need you come first, then the rest, newest first. Each row has a short line saying how it is, such as "Needs you".

  • Press a row to open it.
  • Pull down to refresh.
  • Your whale sits at the top of the list and says what it's doing. When it's working, press it to open its conversation.

With nothing yet, the list says "No conversations yet". If the list can't load, it says "Couldn't load your conversations. Check your connection and try again." Press Try again.

Start a conversation on a cloud computer

  1. Press + (New session) at the top of the list.
  2. Type what you want under "What should we work on?".
  3. Under Where, choose a cloud computer. Each one says whether it's Awake, Asleep or Waking up. A Blocked computer can't be chosen.
  4. Press Send.

The conversation opens and your message is sent.

You see What it means
No cloud computers yet You don't have a cloud computer to start on.
You've used this month's cloud time. The conversation didn't start. Your cloud time is used up for this month.
It didn't start. Try again. Something went wrong. Press Send again.

Other computers of yours show under Where as "Linked computer · Not available yet". You can't start on one from the phone yet.

Follow a conversation

A conversation shows its messages, the work your whale did, the agents it started, and anything waiting for an approval. Under the title:

  • "3 people · 1 here" in a shared conversation. Press it to see who's here.
  • How it is now, such as "Needs you · approve a command". When it needs your approval, press it to answer.

Type in Message and press Send. While a reply is running:

  • Add to this reply sends your message into the reply that's running.
  • Stop stops the reply. It shows for the conversation's owner and for whoever sent the message that started it.

Someone with the Viewer role sees "You can read along here." instead of a message box. When others are typing, a line such as "Sam is typing…" shows above the box.

Not on the phone yet: queued messages, question cards and the reply actions row. See The conversation for the desktop.

Answer an approval

Press the approval's card in the conversation, or the "Needs you" line under the title. The approval shows what your whale wants to do. Press Allow once or Don't allow.

  • If it was already answered somewhere else, it says "This no longer needs an answer". Press Open conversation to go back.
  • If your role can't answer, it says who can, and offers Open conversation.

Allow for this conversation is only on the desktop. See Approvals and permissions.

See who's here

In a shared conversation, press the "people · here" line under the title. People lists everyone with their role, and a dot beside each person who has the conversation open right now.

People is read-only on the phone. Inviting, changing roles, removing someone and leaving are on the desktop. See Work together in a group.

Your account

Press your initials at the top of the list. The account sheet shows your name and email, your Organization and your role in it, and Membership (Not available yet).

Press Sign out to sign out. "Your conversations stay in your account. Signing out leaves nothing on this phone."

Under About you'll find the version, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Contact support and Open source licenses. Licenses lists every package the phone app is built with; press one to read its license.
